Whether you choose the path of kungfu or taichi (or both), you will leave each class feeling energized, and with a sense of accomplishment, knowing that you are improving your strength, stamina, flexibility, health, self-defense skills, and that you are improving your life in a dramatic way.
Our Tiny Tigers class teaches focus, self discipline, and confidence. It’s just plain fun! We provide an excellent cardio workout followed by stretching. Stances, punches, and kicks are the ABCs of kungfu forms. Students will learn forms and perform them for review. Forms are taught individually and progress at the student’s pace. Basic stance names and counting are all in Chinese. As our students improve memory and strength, they will earn the privilege and responsibility of learning the staff weapon form. Each time they test to a new level, a sash, certificate and trophy will be awarded.
We take a balanced approach to fitness. Every class begins with a cardio warm up to improve stamina and strength, followed by stretching and balancing. A new student can expect to learn basic stances along with punching and kicking. Forms are then introduced and taught at an individual pace. The applications of the techniques found in the forms for self-defense are then practiced with the group on rotating days through the week. With patience and hard work you will notice improvement in your over all fitness level, along with improved focus, mind/body connection, and confidence. All of this in a positive and encouraging social environment where all are welcome!
Taichi classes at the Cultural Center begin with a warm up that includes qigong exercises, stance drills and stretching, followed by open hand and weapons forms training. Our program uses a combination of Chen and Shaolin styles to teach internal techniques that will not only improve your health, but will also give you a stronger, more powerful base in your overall martial arts training.
Modern Wushu is a sport/performance-oriented style of kungfu with an emphasis on speed, flexibility, acrobatics, and athleticism. Modern wushu classes will focus on preparing students to compete and perform at the national level. Students will gain in experience in forms that include open hand long first; short weapons, like broadsword and straight sword; and long weapons, like staff and spear. Beyond preparing for competitions, students in the modern wushu class will also learn strength and conditioning exercises that will develop the student’s overall sports performance. Empowering students to reach their personal goals in a friendly and encouraging environment is our top priority.
